Artist Statement

After many years of working as a public servant in the Federal Government I am now pursuing my passion for art. I am an artist who creates Mixed Media Textile sculptures, wall hangings as well as Fibre Art wall hangings. Each piece is wrought individually and is one of a kind.

The majority of my work is created using textiles, fabrics and recycled objects in conjunction with Powertex art supplies. Powertex is a fabric hardener imported from Europe, an environmentally friendly water-based alternative to acrylic.

This medium along with ever changing techniques allows me to create beautiful, elegant figurines, sculptures and wall hangings fashioned in an array of flowing fabrics, style and color.

I mainly work with various gages of wire, aluminium foil, air dry clay, polymer clay, cement as well as recycled materials and incorporate the fabric hardener in the Mixed Media Textile art work. I finish off my pieces with various mediums including acrylic paints, varathane and metal effects or whatever else I find interesting. The possibilities are endless.

I truly enjoy creating these unique and interesting pieces and as each piece is handmade, no two pieces are exactly the same.

My Mixed Media Textile art work dries hard is weather resistant and washable. They can be placed either indoors or outdoors.

In 2014 I became a Powertex certified instructor and now deliver workshops in various locations across Canada. Please contact me if you would be interested in attending a workshop.

Ann grew up on a farm in central Saskatchewan, one that her Great Grandparents homesteaded in the early 1900s. Although Ann was surrounded by skilled family members who designed and fabricated clothes for the family and quilted material for the home, sewing was the last thing that she wanted to do in her life. It wasn’t until she moved to Ontario in 2003, where she began her adventure as a traditional quilter. She soon found she was drawn from traditional to modern and contemporary quilting pieces.

Using her instincts, along with an impromptu personality, she found the beautiful world of Mixed Media Fibre Art. She creates inspirational pieces of work that range from serious political statements to whimsical and fun Figurines that stretch the imagination.

With her devotion to this art form, Ann challenged herself by developing her own, unique artistic styles. Ann’s work has been acquired by collectors and appreciative clients, nationally and internationally.
